January 25 marks the foundation day of Lomonosov MSU that was established 269 years ago by the decree of the Russian Empress Elizabeth. Two-day celebrations included a ceremonial meeting in the main building of Moscow State University and a celebratory event for students concluded by a mead-tasting ceremony and a cake from the Rector.
The 5th Forum of the Association of Universities of Russia and Belarus was held in Moscow University Library on January 24. Scholars and politicians from both countries gathered to create a shared vision for future cooperation in scholarship and academia. The meeting was co-hosted by Rector of Lomonosov MSU, Academician Professor Victor Sadovnichiy and Head of the Belarusian delegation, Rector of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics Professor Vadim Bogush.
In 2023, the latest issue of World of Media. Journal of Russian Media and Journalism Studies brings together six research papers on the issues related to media presentation of diverse conflicts, challenges the journalists faced during COVID-19, media representation of the technologies in Russian business media, demediatization in the context of representation of Russian youth policy in the social media accounts of the authorities, along with the issues linked to visual environmental reporting and propaganda methods in modern user-generated content.
Annual conference of the National Association of Mass Media Researchers offered a big opening plenary discussion completed with award ceremony and followed by three comprehensive rounds of thematic sessions. Participants from across Russia joined the conference, including scholars from Kazakhstan, Siberia, North Caucasus, thus supporting the high status of the all-Russian forum. The event became a perfect nexus of big questions and big ideas, allowing to finalize the year of hard work.
At the last topical seminar of 2023, Dr. Aniruddha Jena shared the floor with Professor Andrey Vyrkovsky to discuss new media drawing on different perspectives. Dr. Jena focused on alternative media as tools for social change, while Professor Vyrkovsky strived to theorize non-institutionalized media raising many probing questions in this regard.
First Topical seminar in the fall semester featured talks by Dr. Sadia Jamil from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and Dr. Kseniya Konkina from the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University. The two speakers conceptualized constructive journalism and sustainable journalism, offering a unique venue to rethink contemporary journalism practices.
Annual international Moscow Readings conference held in hybrid format on November 9-10 attracted roughly 200 participants from over 30 countries. 25 profound thematic sessions along with two plenaries and speakers joining from different cities of Russia and states across the globe offered a fertile ground for topical discussions. In particular, participants had a chance to listen to insights from six world-class scholars, who were keynote speakers this year: Professors Elena Vartanova, Zhao Yonghua, Zhan Baghiyan, Daya Thussu, Elizabeth Saad, Shi-xu.
The 10-person delegation from Renmin University of China led by Professor Zhao Yonghua visited faculty for a welcome meeting on November 7. Professor Zhao, her colleague Dr. Yiyan and eight of their students met Dr. Anna Gladkova and her international team. Welcome day was completed with a tour around the faculty and a walk through the Red Square.
On October 13, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, RAE Academician Professor Elena Vartanova was awarded 'Honorary Mentor' title by the Russian Ministry of Science and Education. Award ceremony went off in a solemn setting at the meeting of the Russian Academy of Education timed to its 80th anniversary.
In the course of the festive online meeting on September 4, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Professor Elena Vartanova met her colleagues from the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn to formalize partnership between the two academic institutions.
