Topical seminar on April 9th, 2024: Dr. Gifty Appiah-Adjei and Dr. Maria Anikina

The Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University proceeds with Topical seminar meetings, a series of online seminars featuring well-known speakers, both Russian and international. The third Topical seminar in 2024 is scheduled for April 9, 3 pm MSK. At the meeting, the speakers will discuss topical issues of health and science news coverage in the age of AI and mediated and non-mediated communication about science and education.
Dr. Gifty Appiah-Adjei, a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies in the School of Communication and Media Studies, University of Education, Winneba (Ghana), will give the first talk Journalists' Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence and Health and Science News Coverage in Ghana. Dr. Appiah-Adjei holds a PhD in Applied Communication from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (2018). Also, she has a postgraduate degree in Communication and Media Studies (University of Education, Winneba). The researcher has been serving as the Co-chair of the working group of Africa for Journalism Safety Research Network since 2023. Her research interests include security of journalists, press freedom, ethnic journalism, conflict-sensitive reporting, media and democracy, journalism and digital technologies, media and gender, information disorder, and journalism education.
The Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University will be presented by Dr. Maria Anikina. She is Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology of Mass Communications at the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University. Dr. Maria Anikina is also a curator of the Master’s program ‘Scientific journalism and communication’. She has authored around 80 scientific papers and co-authored more than 10 books. Her research interests cover numerous fields, such as journalism and mass communications, scientific communication, mediatization and popularization of science, methods of studying mass media audience, public perceptions studies and many others. Her latest studies are focused on media presentation of diverse conflicts, urban communication in Moscow districts’ Telegram channels, and media activity of modern Russian youth. During the meeting Dr. Maria Anikina will deliver a talk Mediated and Non-Mediated Communication about Science and Education: The Case of Russia.

Topical seminars are of utmost importance both for the integration of national research studies into the international academic environment, and for the conceptualization of distinctive features of Russian media studies. The Faculty of Journalism invites everyone to sign up for the seminar and hopes that the issues, touched upon in the course of the event, will trigger productive scientific discussion.
