The 5th Forum of the Association of Universities of Russia and Belarus was held in Moscow University Library on January 24. The meeting was co-hosted by Rector of Lomonosov MSU, Academician Professor Victor Sadovnichiy and Head of the Belarusian delegation, Rector of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics Professor Vadim Bogush.
A big international event to celebrate Russia-Belarus academic cooperation served as a mood-setter on the threshold of the anniversary festivities. Cradle of the Russian education, Moscow University Library hosted the 5th Forum of the Association of Universities of Russia and Belarus, with scholars and politicians from both countries gathering on January 24 to create a shared vision for the future.
Rector of Lomonosov MSU, Academician Professor Victor Sadovnichiy opened the meeting by extending heartfelt greetings to the Belarusian partners and underlining the importance of common history and culture as a solid foundation for future excellence. The diversified Belarusian delegation, headed by the Rector of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics Professor Vadim Bogush, represented different regions of the state and various lines of cooperation, including scholarly ties, research partnership, youth policy, etc.
The event created a unique space to jointly reflect on the common challenges that are tackled differently in the two countries. To map out future partnership, participants dwelled upon the progress made within the existing joint projects, such as MSU-BSU joint Master’s program in history, scholarly collaborations that resulted in students’ books production, as well as Russia-Belarus student contests and conferences, such as Nauka 0+ festival held in both countries for several years straight.
By way of contributing to the strategic planning process, Professor Victor Sadovnichiy suggested considering joint academic initiatives that will capitalize on the strengths of the recently-devised super computer MSU 270 and the newly built innovative technological centre “VorobyovyGory”.
The highlight of the meeting was the signing of an agreement between Lomonosov MSU and The Eurasian Economic Commission, along with seven bilateral agreements between the universities of the two countries.
