Career Day on May 27 Was Conducted Online

On May 27 the Faculty of Journalism conducted the Career Day for Russian-speaking students and future journalists. The event was aimed at informing undergraduate and graduated students about them internship opportunities, job openings and possible career paths in the sphere of media and communications.

The Career Day started at 10:30 MSK with a greeting speech by Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Elena Vartanova and Head of the Russian Union of Journalists Vladimir Solovyev. Then students listened to video lectures by prominent media managers, who shared valuable insights into the work of their companies, presented key trends in media industry, told about career prospects and provided practical tips for young specialists. Among them were representatives of the largest social-political weekly newspapers Argument i Fakti, one of the leading news agencies Interfax, and the most popular social network VKontakte. Careful selection of variously specialized companies allowed students to learn completely different career paths they could embark on as media professionals.

After each presentation students had a 45-minute Q&A session with companies’ representatives, where they could receive more specified information. Also there was a workshop conducted by Secretary of the Russian Union of Journalists Roman Serebryaniy. He shared many valuable practical tips based on his experience as a first-class expert in working with young journalists and creator of youth projects aimed at fostering careers of young specialists. In the course of the workshop, the students learnt how to write a successful CV, compose a cover letter and prepare for job interview.

The Career Day was completed with a job fair, where students were provided with a chance to meet potential employers, who told about the specifics of work in their companies, elaborated on internship opportunities and job openings, as well as answered questions in real time.

This year partners of the Career Day included more than 20 companies: Interfax, Argument i Fakti, Mail.ru group, Russian Union of Journalists, Izvestia, Russian News Agency TASS, RT, Pyatnitsa!, EMG, Seasons, iMars, 2Stars, BBDO, Krasny Kvadrat, Yandex, Ministry of Finance, Sber, Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Public Opinion Research Center, and others.
