06.02.2021

On January 25 a celebratory meeting was held to commemorate the 266-th anniversary of Lomonosov Moscow State University. The occasion was marked by the spirit of festivity which was set from the very start, as the main relics of the MSU – The Statute and The Charter of Moscow University – were solemnly brought in, accompanied by the sounds of the MSU anthem.

The audience went through centuries of the MSU history via video screening and took a glimpse of the future while listening to the plans, in particular, of a new branch campus in Saratov. This was followed by the speech by Victor Sadovnichiy, rector of Moscow State University, who touched upon the new scientific agenda shaped by the pandemic and expressed his gratitude to all those who stood by the university and contributed to its prosperity in these difficult times.

Among other festive traditions, such as congratulations from space orbit, an extensive cultural programme and an invitation to taste secret-recipe mead, the audience witnessed the Annual Award Ceremony. Victor Sadovnichiy pointed out that MSU researchers contribute significantly to the development of both Russian and global science.
