16/10/2019 — Roundtable discussion “In Science We Trust: Fake News and Science Journalism”

02.10.2019

Roundtable discussion “In Science We Trust: Fake News and Science Journalism” will be held on October 16, 2019.

“Local contagions of anti-intellectualism threaten to become epidemic” — this Robert Merton line from his 1942 Note on Science and Democracy is a fitting headline for a decade when people have famously had enough of experts. Measles is on the rise again as WHO puts vaccine hesitancy on its list of global health threats, climate change denial is promoted by presidents, and disinformation is as viable a business strategy as ever. Can science journalists stay away from the fight?

Russian Association for Science Communication (AKSON) and Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University, present a Moscow Readings satellite roundtable discussion “In Science We Trust: Fake News and Science Journalism” on October 16, 2019.

Featured speakers of the roundtable include:
  • Alexander Telishev, TASS;
  • Borislav Kozlovsky, science journalist (N+1, Esquirе, GEO, Colta.ru), author of Max Repost. How Social Media Make Us Believe Fake News;
  • Maria Anikina and Daniil Ilchenko, Anna Gureeva and Olga Murinets (Faculty of Lomonosov, MSU);
  • Olga Dobrovidova (N+1, AKSON, vice president of the European Federation for Science Journalism) will moderate the discussion.
External guest need to register for the roundtable.
