The conference “Journalism Education in Russia and China in the Era of New Media”

On September 17, 2018 the Faculty of Journalism, MSU hosted the conference “Journalism Education in Russia and China in the Era of New Media”. The teachers from Regmin University of China, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Jinan University and other educational and research institutions discussed with the colleagues from the Moscow University some current trends of journalism education. The meeting took place as an activity of Union for Journalism Education of Russian and Chinese Universities which was found in 2016 in Beijing with the assistance of the Faculty of Journalism.

The Dean of the Facluty professor Elena Vartanova during her open speech emphasized the importance of cooperation with Chinese universities that have always been one of the main Faculty partners. Professor presented the study of key components of contemporary Russian journalism education and pointed out that digitalization had to be comprehended as a challenge and opportunity for journalism teaching.

The head of the Chinese delegation Professor Zhao Younghua (Renmin University of China) talked about problems and reforms of journalism education in China. She noticed that modern journalism made teachers and researchers to develop not only new practical, but also ethic standards which became extremely important in terms of digital sphere.

Russian and Chinese colleagues concluded that both countries faced very similar problems when it comes to journalism education. Professor Zhao Younghua inferred that such conferences could help to find out a common way for developing and modernization.
