The Editorial and Publishing Business and Information Science

The Department of Theory and Methods of Editing was established in 1952 and is one of the oldest departments at the Faculty of Journalism. 

The chair is Professor Ivan Pankeev. 
 
Basic profiling discipline of the department – “Fundamentals of Editing of Media Texts” – focuses on the development of the theory and practice of editing. The course includes such sections as text editing of printed media, text editing of electronic media (TV, radio, Internet), editing of advertising and PR-texts, creating and editing of rewritten news reports. To teach this course, in addition to members of the department, journalists from leading media (RTR, Interfax, TRBC Mir and others) are invited to give lectures. Recommended textbooks for teaching: “Literary Editing”, “Handbook of Literary Editing”, “Stylistics and Literary Editing”, “Editing of Messages”, “Rewritten News Reports: Creating and Editing”, “Advertising and PR Text” – are created by members of the department and are addressed to the authors of media publications, the editorial staff, students and lecturers of journalism departments of universities. 

The graduates of the department successfully work as senior and production editor, chief editor, content and PR-manager, advertising manager of the books, heads of publishing and online projects.

Marina Alekseyeva – from 1971 to 1989 Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, from 1989 to 2008 – Vice Dean for Academic and Methodological Association, from 1983 to 2009 – Head of the Sub-department of Theory and Methods of Editing;  
Tatyana Bek – poet, literary critic and publicist;
Evgeniy Kruglov – Associate Professor at the Faculty of Journalism MSU, Head of the Russian-Indian Center of Mass Media;
Evgeniy Pronin – Professor at the Faculty of Journalism MSU
