The first issue of 'World of Media. Journal of Russian Media and Journalism Studies' in 2023 brings together four original research papers in the field of media and journalism studies.
The faculty resumes Work-in-Progress meetings launched by IAMCR Digital Divide Working Group that give digital divide scholars an opportunity to share their ongoing work. New meeting on February 22 revolved around the research by Dr. Soledad Caballero from the University of the Republic (Uruguay) into the digital divide among elderly women. Dr. Anna Gladkova, Dr. Glenn Muschert and Dr. Massimo Ragnedda noted the impressive scale of the study and commented on the ways to systematize the rich empirical data.
Spring season of topical seminars is open, and on February 21 researchers from all over the globe gathered at this international event to listen to Dr. Uma Shankar Pandey from University of Calcutta (India) and Dr. Gelia Filatkina from Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia). The speakers gave a profound picture of media industries in the BRICS countries that are unique in many ways, and answered thought-provoking questions by the audience.
Experts from around 50 Russian cities, along with colleagues from other countries gathered at the annual conference organized by the Faculty of Journalism to discuss current issues of media studies in three key aspects of journalism: creativity, profession, and industry. Altogether two plenary sessions, 29 thematic sessions and 16 round table discussions completed the action-packed program of the academic event. The thematic palette embraced many different research areas, both theoretical and practical.
Speakers and listeners from 20 countries discussed ideas for promoting and strengthening contacts between Russia and Africa at the round table meeting organized by Russian-African Club based at the Lomonosov Faculty of Global Studies, and co-organized by the Faculty of Journalism. Government officials, world-class academics and journalists of leading media outlets reflected on the value of building a lively dialogue, which would serve as a base for forming a uniquely strong trustworthy relationship.
The scholar was awarded the title for his productive cooperation with the Faculty of Journalism as an innovative researcher and distinguished lecturer. For years, Dr. Ragnedda has been an active participant of numerous academic international projects of the faculty, sharing his expertise and contributing to the development of global connections in the media scholars’ community.

Main highlights of 2022 is the final episode of Season 1. In this episode Professor Elena Vartanova and Dr. Anna Gladkova, Leading Researcher at the Faculty of Journalism, sum up the results of the year full of hard work and important projects. Professor Elena Vartanova and Dr. Anna Gladkova recall the 70th anniversary of the faculty and the 75th anniversary of the journalism education of Lomonosov MSU and talk about a multimedia project Legends of the Faculty of Journalism and Maestros of the Faculty, a series of video interviews.
The last topical seminar in the fall semester was held on December 13 and featured talks by Professor Shi-xu (Hangzhou Normal University) and Dr. Denis Dunas (Lomonosov Moscow State University). The scholars discussed principles that guide communication in Russia and China. Professor Shi-xu was centring his analysis on the theoretical framework of Chinese Discourse Studies, while Dr. Dunas presented the results of the empirical research of Russian social media platforms.
The solemn signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between 12 field-specific universities associations in Russia and China was held on December 8, becoming the highlight of the event. The document aims to promote education in Russia and China through joint efforts. The two-day event was also marked by a meeting of associations’ secretaries, a plenary session, and presentations by associations’ leaders. Creation of a new association that unites sport education institutions in Russia and China was another important milestone. The Forum was attended by the leaders of associations, representatives of member universities, and honorary guests – Ministry officials from both countries.
