Forum Of Russian And Chinese Universities Associations Held on December 7–8

The key event of the Forum was held on December 8, when representatives of the associations and rectors of member universities, as well as Ministry officials from both countries met to discuss paths for collaboration and sign the Memorandum of Agreement that aims to promote education in Russia and China through joint efforts.

The solemn signing was preceded by an opening ceremony and the plenary session. The participants were greeted by the officials from Ministries of Education of both countries, Rector of the University of International Business and Economics, and representatives of Russian Embassy in Bejing and Chinese Embassy in Moscow. Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Academician Victor Sadovnichiy co-moderated the greeting ceremony and opened the plenary session outlining the milestones of the mutually beneficial cooperation with Chinese colleagues. Rectors of other leading Russian and Chinese universities followed his lead, speaking on behalf of their associations.

The ceremony was completed with talks by the leaders of associations, and creation of a new association, which brought together sports universities in Russia and China. In total, the newly signed agreement has united universities of different specializations in Russia and China: classical universities, technology universities, universities of Far East and Siberia in Russia and of North East in China, universities of arts, economic universities, transport universities, teachers’ universities, universities of the Middle and Upper Yangtze Region of China and Russia's Volga Federal District, medical universities, journalism universities, universities of culture, agricultural universities, and starting today also sports universities.

In particular, Journalism Education Council of China and Russia, co-chaired by our Dean, Professor Elena Vartanova, is actively engaged in promoting international cooperation with Chinese colleagues in the field of journalism education. The Council was co-founded in 2016 by the leaders of journalism education institutions in Russia and China, including Lomonosov Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University, Far Eastern Federal University, Kazan Federal University, Renmin University of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Communication University of China, and others. Altogether, it unites 21 Chinese and 15 Russian universities aiming to develop journalism education in Russia and China, and establish contacts between media outlets and journalism professionals in the two countries. Since its foundation in Bejing six years ago, the Council organized a range of events fostering journalism education in the two countries, including an international conference on 'Journalism Education in Russia and China in Times of New Media' held in 2018 at the Faculty of Journalism.

Secretary of Journalism Education Council of China and Russia, Leading Researcher at the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov MSU, Dr. Anna Gladkova spoke at the meeting of secretaries on December 7. Dr. Gladkova announced plans for collaborative educational and scholarly activities, and recalled the key events led by the Council.
