The show was opened with the fanfare of the “Festive Oveture” by Dmitri Shostakovich, followed by the overture-fantasy “Romeo and Juliet” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The festivities culminated with “The Firebird” orchestral pieces by Igor Stravinsky.

Prominent Russian conductor Valery Gergiev was an early supporter of the initiative, proposed by the Rector 30 years ago. On March 23, Gergiev was awarded the Star of Moscow University. In 30 years, Moscow State University hosted more than 300 concerts. Throughout the years, the events featured world-renowned artists, such as Maya Plisetskaya, Rodion Shchedrin, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Galina Vishnevskaya, and others.
