Journalists and Scholars Discussed the Language of Broadcasting Media during the Conference “Study Russian”

On October 12-13, 2016 the Faculty of Journalism, MSU hold the “Study Russian” conference devoted to the language of Russian broadcasting media. Journalists and scholars discussed the transformations of language norms.

During the plenary session the Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University academician Viktor Sadovnichiy pointed out that the language of the media is a tool of psychological influence and a communicative sample for the audience. Therefore it is essential to study the loanwords, the stylistic contaminations and other contemporary language phenomena.

The President of Russian Academy of education Doctor of Philology Ludmila Verbitskaya claimed that it is necessary to make an oral speech brighter and more expressive, because the language is “the uniting factor of multinational culture”. Chairman of the Presidium of the Council for the Russian language under the Russian President Nikolai Tolstoy supposed that the modern media need some special editors who could present the benchmark of the language and be the mediators between a text and an audience.

The Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, MSU Professor Elena Vartanova presented a mobile app “1000 of word forms. The pronunciation dictionary for broadcasting media” by associate Professor of Chair of Russian Language Stylistics Dr. Mikhail Shtudiner.

The plenary session also included the awarding of the anchors with the most correct speech. The winners were chosen according to the research of Chair of Russian Language Stylistics.

The discussion about the Russian language transformations continued within the frameworks of different “round tables” and many aspects of advertising, broadcasting and media oratory were debated.
