The Members of the Faculty of Journalism, MSU Elected as the Heads of Digital Divide working group at IAMCR


iamcr.jpgOn July 27-31, 2016 the IAMCR (International Association for Media and Communication Research) conference “Memory, Commemoration and Communication: Looking Forward, Looking Back” took place at the University of Leicester, UK. The IAMCR Digital Divide Working Group held elections during the working group business meeting. Dr. Olga Smirnova (Faculty of Journalism, MSU) was re-elected as Chair and Dr. Anna Gladkova (Faculty of Journalism, MSU) was elected as Vice-Chair.

The Digital Divide working group had productive sessions covered different aspects of the issue, the scholars from all over the world presented their researches. The regional dimensions of the problem became an important debatable topic. The digital divide was also analyzed within the context of intergenerational communication. The overcoming of the digital inequality was considered as one of the main steps to the determination of social prosperity.

The IAMCR is an organization which unites media researchers from all over the world. It strives to develop the fields of media studies and media education. The organization consists of working groups dedicated to different spheres of studying. The Digital Divide group. The aims of the Digital Divide working group are to contribute to theoretical understanding of inequality in access to information and media in the new digital environment, to identify gaps and inconsistencies in the digital media world. The scholars highly appreciate a contribution of the Digital Divide working group to the research area.
