The Department of Journalism is the leading Russian institution for journalism education. It was founded in 1952 in the Moscow State University. Since then more then 15,000 specialists who currently work in different media organisations – newspapers, magazines, TV channels, radio stations, news agencies and Web-media in Russia and abroad graduated from the department.

The Department of Journalism hosts 3,000 Russian and over 250 international students. It offers more than 200 courses per year and employs about 300 teachers and professional media instructors.

The Department of Journalism is a member of international organisations for media researchers and teachers of journalism. It has established academic links with different universities and schools of journalism.
