International students at MSU: entrance requirements
Foreign citizens can be enrolled at the Faculty of Journalism MSU on contract basis. The enrollment of students from other countries is based on special rules.
Studying
The academic year at MSU starts on September 1 and ends on June 30. Duration of studies: Bachelor’s degree – 4 years, Master’s degree – 2 years, PhD – 3 years. All MSU faculties have full-time study programmes. PhD programmes may be completed both by full-time and correspondence students.
All courses are taught in Russian. The enrollment is based on the results of the entrance examinations.
MSU admission rules require that all candidates should pass a Russian language test or complete a Russian language course at the Centre for International Education MSU (CIE).
Entrance requirements
To get access to the main entrance examinations the candidate should submit to the MSU admission board the following documents:
- application form ( please use standard form)
- documents certifying your education (equivalents to the documents which are required to enter a Russian educational institution) with the name of obtained degree and a transcript of records :
For Bachelor’s degree (BSc/BA): certificate of secondary education
For Master’s degree (MSc/ MA): a Bachelor’s degree diploma or a Specialist diploma
For PhD programmes: a Master’s degree diploma or a Specialist diploma
The submitted certificates, diplomas and transcripts of records should be translated into Russian and validated by a public notary.
- document stating that the submitted education documents are equivalent to the Russian standards (can be obtained at MSU)
- standard form certifying that the candidate has passed a Russian language test. Candidates who have completed a course at The Centre for international education or have taken a preparation course at a Faculty of a Russian educational intuition, which has the required accreditation, should submit a certificate stating that the programme was successfully completed by the candidate
- standard medical reference certifying that the candidate has no diseases, which could prevent him from studying on the territory of the Russian Federation and at the Faculty of Journalism (can be obtained at the MSU Medical centre)
- reference (certificate) stating that the student is not HIV positive (the reference should be obtained at the MSU medical centre)
- Passport, visa and migration card
- 6 photos sized 3x4 cm
The candidate should submit these documents in person. The Faculty has the right to request additional information.
The documents should be submitted to the Admission Board from June 20 until July 5 2009 ( for Master’s and Bachelor’s degree programmes). Candidates for PhD programmes can apply within the academic year.
Entrance examinations are scheduled for the period between June 6 and July 25 2009. The exact dates and the list of the entrance exams will be announced later.
Dormitory rooms are paid on the basis of a separate contract. MSU does not provide housing during the examination period.
Visa invitation
To receive an invitation the candidate should submit to the International office of the Faculty the following documents (by e-mail , fax or by regular post)
-filled application form
-copies of the first two pages of the International passport
After the consideration of the documents, the Faculty sends an invitation to the candidate. Please make an inquiry about the visa issuing procedure at the Russian embassy in your country. Preparing the invitation takes about 2 and a half months, that is why the documents should be submitted not later than 3 months before the start of the academic year.
